Mendelssohn's Elijah
Mendelssohn’s Elijah
Arun Choral Society presents Mendelssohn’s masterpiece, Elijah Sunday, 17 May 2026 | 7:30pm Arundel Cathedral
Experience the raw drama of the Old Testament as Arun Choral Society brings Mendelssohn's magnificent oratorio to life in the atmospheric surroundings of Arundel Cathedral.
At the heart of this performance is the formidable figure of the prophet Elijah, portrayed by acclaimed Welsh baritone Owain Gwynfryn. Fresh from the UK stage premiere of Offenbach’s Die Rheinnixen and his acclaimed turn as Alidoro in La Cenerentola, Gwynfryn brings his "commanding vocal presence" to one of the most demanding roles in the baritone canon.
From the desperate haunting of the drought to the fiery spectacle on Mount Carmel, Elijah is a work of extraordinary emotional range. Underpinned by powerful choruses and a professional orchestra, this performance promises to be a highlight of the 2026 season.

Verdi's La Traviata
Giuseppe Verdi: La Traviata
St Paul’s Opera | 2nd, 3rd & 4th July 2026 St Paul’s Church, Clapham
Following a series of acclaimed performances in the 2025 season, Welsh baritone Owain Gwynfryn returns to the role of Giorgio Germont in St Paul’s Opera’s summer production of La Traviata.
One of the most enduring stories in the operatic canon, Verdi’s masterpiece demands a baritone of significant dramatic range and vocal authority. Gwynfryn, known for his "commanding presence" and nuanced storytelling, portrays the stern yet conflicted father whose intervention changes the course of Violetta’s life.
This production follows Owain's recent successes as Conrad in the UK stage premiere of Die Rheinnixen and his portrayal of Alidoro in La Cenerentola. Appearing in all three performances, this is a central highlight of his 2026 summer schedule.
Performances:
Thursday, 2nd July 2026
Friday, 3rd July 2026
Saturday, 4th July 2026

The Flying Dutchman - Opera Holland Park
Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman
Opera Holland Park
May – June 2025
This season, I am excited to perform in Richard Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman at Opera Holland Park.
Premiered in 1843, The Flying Dutchman is Wagner’s first great opera — a dramatic and atmospheric story of love, obsession, and redemption, shaped by the power of the sea and its legends. Haunted by a terrible curse, the Dutchman is doomed to sail the oceans for eternity unless he can find salvation through the love of a faithful woman. When Senta, the daughter of a sea captain, recognises him from an ancient painting, their instant connection offers a glimmer of hope — but fate may have other plans.
Blending Gothic mystery with soaring romanticism, and rich with stormy choruses, sailors’ ballads, and intense psychological drama, The Flying Dutchman marks a thrilling highlight of the Opera Holland Park 2025 season.
Performance Dates:
May 27, 29, 31 — 7:30 PM
June 5, 7, 12, 14 — 7:30 PM
Sung in German with English surtitles.

I look forward to bringing this powerful story to life on stage in one of London’s most iconic open-air opera settings.

Young Artists Covers Lunchtime Concert with West Green House Opera
A lunchtime concert featuring arias and duets sung by our talented young artists.
Last year our formal West Green House Opera Young Artist Covers Programme commenced, which allows us to extend the invaluable mentoring of young artists at this most important stage in their early careers. In addition to the principal cast members, thanks to the generous sponsorship of our patrons, we are now able to offer a second cast of principals the chance to learn a completely new role, not only the musical score but also the dramatic presentation, shadowing the principal cast throughout the rehearsal and performance period. The programme culminates with a showcase in London in July, to which the artists can invite colleagues and industry professionals who they want to see their work and this year, for the first time, a lunchtime concert during the opera season to showcase their talents at West Green. And if ever one of our principals cannot take to the stage, our cover artists will be fully prepared to take over……this is often how the stars of tomorrow are born!
